Weathering Weekly
A downloadable game
Weathering Weekly is a resource management game where you play as the editor-in-chief of The Green Herald, a weekly newspaper. Depending on what you choose to publish, you'll affect the quality of life of the citizens of Palm Springs, so choose wisely!
Concept: Environmental conservation is based off of the actions of the people within a society. There are a variety of things that influence this action such as culture, financial stability, industry and legal policy. An often overlooked influence of our actions is the media we consume. Journalism and media narratives can spur people to focus on specific themes and ideas(such as plastic straws) or detract our focus away from other topics that could be better approached. The media can also be manipulated, similar to how fossil fuel studies relating to global warming were often obscured or misleading to the public, and subsequently ignored as a problem until public studies later on showed otherwise.
Weathering Weekly is a simulator to show how the actions of journalists can influence its people. But we also want to show why journalists may take these actions. Newspapers and articles cannot always be truthful, often due to the potential lawsuits, defamation cases or simply pullaways from sponsors that could end up shutting down the business as a whole. Media houses, unfortunately, cannot always be as truthful as they would like. This especially goes for those who are sponsored by big businesses or companies.
Weathering Weekly tries to simulate this for the player, to show that finding a balance can be difficult, and that the things published in our news can greatly determine what our future looks like. We hope our players enjoy the experience!
